Garmin
We have a Garmin 128 and 45 models, both excellent peices of kit.
Yeoman
I am very happy with mine, see their demo, for the "biggest screen chart plotter",
and now would not like to have it on board, especially when single handed.
Download wiring diagram to link
these two together and also how to connect a computer to the garmin Click
picture for full size
Laptop Software
I have used this program for the last three years, enables selfscaned ordinary
paper charts to be used on a computer for a real time position in conjuction
with a GPS, a nice extra to have on board, but not as essential as the above
two.
Try Oziexplorer
Down load a trial version of ozi from here, Oziexplorer
then from here download:-
a trial chart, (best to right click and save target as, because it is big!!!!) dont use for navagation as it is out of date and had a datum shift applied to it.
a way point file for use with the above chart
and some track routes that go with the same chart
Scanning your own charts
I have found panavue particularly useful for joining the seperate sections together
See voyages for some of the other uses of Ozi, with the track points downloaded from my garmin, and waypoints .
Charts
downloadable scanned charts of NL, D, DK, unfortunately removed
I have recently found MrSid Image lib at https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/ for a background map derived from satellite rather useful, these are importable into oziexplorer, no good for navagation but excellent for overview of voyages etc.
note feb 2004 the link no longer works, perhaps the info has been removed due to 9/11
If any body knows the new placement , let me know please
yahoo has a number of gps groups which are another good source for all things nav wise
for useful add ons to ozi & other things http://members.shaw.ca/davepatton/software.html
