Kiel Canal or NOK

Last Visited in 2003

passing ship, the only downloadable pic on this page passing a ship on the Nok!!!
Notice the piles in front of the bows on the shore, this is the tie ups in the "sidings", absolutely no use for a yacht!!! passing ship
Light at Kiel At the Kiel end is this V attractive light, the lock is just round the corner
Clock at edge of small lock Kiel Lock clock at Kiel
Entrance to the lock towards the Eider at Giesenau, some good yacht moorings this side of the lock, i.e. the Nok side, well out from passing traffic which is half a mile astern Giesenau Lock

Charges:- about 75 Dm for 16 mtr in 2000. (35 € in 2003)

worth going via the Eider though as tides in estuary are lighter than Elbe, and a pleasant day 1/2 to boot

Tolls of eider + half of NOK is about the same as all of the Nok

Nok tolls paid at Kiel, and will only accept DM and no cards, however there is a cash machine about 3 KM away,!!!, I know because I walked it one year!, better is to anchor near the degaussing area & walk from there, about 1 Km

Return ticket not available, don't under declare length as keeper has a book of pictures to identify common yacht types, saw him using it while arguing with a Dutchman.

Rendersburg offers a number of marinas which I have not tried & a good anchorage at the top nearer the town. Most pilot books speak of anchorage in flemhurdersee, which is unnecessarily small(only allowed between 4 buoys) & crowded at the weekends in the summer

The following link might be useful kiel canal co in english as well

Also copy of leaflet given to us at kiel on our way home

Copy of regulations both in zip files
