Originally a fishing village on an island, Marken now is a tourist destination
for coaches from Amsterdam. Without doubt the best time to visit is in
late autumn, but even in season the ambience is much improved after the
last coach goes home. A surprisingly narrow entrance and not particularly
deep in the channel leading in, so a good lookout for a departing trip
boat, leads to an easy entrance or departure. a surprising chop can develop
in strong easterly
