This lock deserves a page of its own !!
A Fresh to salt lock with excessive envoiremental concerns, as when coming in from the sea and dropping to the volkerak, the lock is rinsed at goodness knows what cost with fresh water pumped round from large holding basins. Thjis also happens in the commercial lock to the east!!
Beware when entering from the sea side at lower than half tide as the sea water rushes in at the bottom of the lock & the fresh leaves very quickly at surface level
