Hollandse Ijssel, A tidal river from Rotterdam to above Utrecht

The lowest portion of the river is still industrial , with ship building , and here a little further up barge repair

There are a couple of nice typical little Dutch towns, this one is notable for its small river ferry

One of the more difficult locks in Holland as there are floating wooden baulks at waterlevel, secured by chains, which damage the side very readily, especially if behind a loaded barge on its exit. The way to Utrecht is behind to the right.
