David is the founder and senior instructor of Gourock Karate Club.
Having taken up the art of Shotokan Karate in February 1980
he gained his 1st Dan in February 1983, and was invited to
teach Karate at Edinburgh University which he did for 2 years.

In April 1992 in Birmingham
he was successful in gaining his 3rd Dan under
Sensei Enoeda, 8th Dan and Sensei Sherry, 7th Dan.
A short time later David decided to give more time
to his Karate and turned professional.
In 1994 at the Scottish Championships in Clydebank David became Scottish Kata Champion after being runner-up for the previous 3 years, and later that year was asked to be the Kata Coach for the Scottish Region, a position which he enjoyed and continued for the next 2 years. David has represented his country both at home and abroad in national and international competition as part of the Scottish Squad as have several members of his clubs over the years. He is also a qualified referee! |
