Dolphin is a men's Cotswold Morris team and we practice a number of traditions including  Sherborne, Fieldtown, Bledington, Headington Quarry, Ilmington, and Lichfield.

We practice on Thursday nights from September through to April, at Kingston-on-Soar (near J24 of the M1); and recover from the ordeal with a pint and, usually, a few tunes and songs in a local pub.

Then, from May to August, we can be found on Thursday evenings delighting the crowds at pubs around the Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire borders, dancing traditions including Upton on Severn, Longborough,  Bucknell. Anything we haven't practised, really.

The pub that gave us our name

Dolphin Morris were formed in 1968 by members of the Nottingham Traditional Music Club. Strong links were retained with NTMC until NTMC folded in the 1980s. After that, maintaining the links became more difficult. And a bit pointless, really, when you think about it.

So why "Dolphin", when Nottingham is so far from the sea?  We were named after the Dolphin Pub, the hostelry to which we retired after that first practice. The pub is now demolished (we deny everything) but the pub sign is safely hoarded away in a secret location.

Andy Padmore has produced a very thorough history of the Dolphin Inn - and you can read it here!

'The Dolphin', looking a bit dishevelled.
