
The following images are taken from the early 1950's when corsetry advertising was probably at its peak. They re taken largely from a pile of old magazines that I found at a car boot sale recently. In addition to single advertisements, sometimes there were articles on the subject of girdles as well.

The article above illustrates all too clearly the importance of firm foundations to achieve the look that fashion dictated. Women were encouraged to take a "firm line" with foundations matched to the needs of the particular dress style.

During this period there were even advertisements for exercise girdles. The Rallie Massage Belt came complete with an apparatus reminiscent of chest expanders!
