Christ Church actively partakes in the SAFE FROM HARM philosophy which ensures any leaders follow a strict code of conduct when looking after your children. As our commitment to this, all people involved with children's work have applied for vetting by the Criminal Records Bureau.

ANYONE WHO IS INVOLVED WITH CHILDREN'S WORK AT CHRIST CHURCH WILL HAVE UNDERTAKEN TRAINING PRIOR TO STARTING THEIR WORK. You can therefore be assured that your children are in very safe hands at all times whilst attending activities at Christ Church.

The following Children Orientated activities can be enjoyed at Christ Church.

If you need any information on any of them please email the Vicar at andrew@christchurchblackburn.org.uk

We look forward to seeing you.

Sunday Gang/Pathfinders:

Sunday Gang is what some churches refer to as a Sunday school. The children leave the service to have a time of worship and thought which is aimed at the 4 to 10 year age group. By doing this we aim to provide the children with an understanding of the Christian faith in a way that they understand. The lessons are tailored to the age group and we aim to have the children make something in every lesson so that they can take away a reminder of what they have learnt.

Pathfinders is a group for the 11-14 year olds where they can enjoy a tailored teaching if they prefer a more informal lesson to the church sermon.

Campaigners:

Campaigners is split into 4 age categories:

4 - 6 1/2 - Eagles
Eagles is based in the Church Lounge on Tuesday evenings between 18:15 and 19:30
The children work through a series of 'Steps' which cover all of the basic skills to prepare them for both their adult and Christian life.

6 to 10 1/2 - Junos
The next age group is run combined. Both boys and girls meet on Tuesdays at 18:15 until 19:30
For every task the Juno successfully completes they will receive a badge which is sewn onto his or her Campaigner uniform. A further series of awards are gained for every set of badges which are gained. As for the Eagles, these badge tasks cover most of the aspects of the life which the child will encounter as they grow up.

10 to 13 1/2 - Inters
Inters meet on Tuesday evenings between 19:15 and 20:45
Again, a structured series of badge-work is worked through with rewards at all stages. The badge-work is a more in depth learning of the principles taught in the Junos section. It is possible to join Campaigners at any time and pick up on the tasks.

13 to 18 - Craftsmen
Craftsmen meet on Thursday evening at 19:30 until 22:00
Most of the evening is spent working towards the various levels of the Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) award. Consequently the craftsmen do spend a couple of weekends a year from home carrying out their expeditions. This could be a walk around the Lake District, Bolton by Bowland or anywhere else that the group decide. There are a number of Craftsmen working towards the various levels of the DoE scheme (Bronze and Silver)
Whilst there is a theoretical age limit to the Craftsmen group, the young adults are encouraged to continue working with the group to assist the younger members in their work.
At the age of 18 the craftsmen are encouraged (but not pushed if they don't want) to undertake the Campaigner Chiefs training course. This prepares them for assisting with or leading a Campaigner clan of their own in the future.

Every year, the members of the Juno, Inter and Craftsmen groups are given the opportunity to go away on a camp. These are usually in boarding schools which have been hired out to Campaigners and contain a full week of activities both outdoor and indoor, physical, spiritual and mental.

Crèche:

A small crèche is provided during the sermon on a Sunday morning. This is to provide the adult members of the church with the free time to listen to the message which is being taught without the distraction of young children. The crèche is for children under the age of 4 and is held in the church lounge. If you wish your child to remain in the service throughout, no one will stop you. Neither will anybody ask you to remove your child from the service if they are noisy (speaking from personal experience!).

Children are as welcome in our Church as any one else.
