Montereau

Montereau (Montereau-Fault-Yonne) is in the region known as the Ile-de-France. ie the region around Paris. It is in the historic centre of France. An island surrounded by the rivers Aisne, Oise, Seine, Marne and over to the other side, the Loire. There is a wealth of history and interesting places to visit, and within the hour is Paris, the chateaux of Versailles, Fontainbleau, Chantilly, Vaux le Vicompte, Euro Disney, Provins, Reims.
Although not noted as a wine area, the Champage region and Eperney is only 1½ hours away, as is the Sancerre region of the Loire. To the south is the Chablis area of Burgandy. North of Montereau, and a little bit to the west is the area which is famous for cheese making - the Brie region.

Montereau is where the two rivers, the Yonne and the Seine meet. Both rivers have their beginnings in Burgundy to the south. A large bridge spans the two rivers and the confluence (where the two rivers flow into one another) then takes the name of the Seine (even though the Yonne is the larger at that point), and thereon continues to Paris and the North Sea.
