The Earthenware Museum displays a range of 400 pieces which give an indication of the development of shapes and decoration in local production. The Faiencerie Montrelaise, one of the oldest in France, in fact owes its origins to the region's clay. Founded in 1719, associated with that of Creil from 1840 to 1895, it was closed in 1955. |

Notre-Dame et Saint-Loup
Collegiate Church stands at the confluence of the Seine and the Yonne.
Built over several centuries,begun in the 12th and completed in the
16th century, its architecture displays a variety of styles. Flamboyant
Gothic and Renaissance style blend to form a fine edifice. When entering
this church, do not miss an "entombment", a 12th century
French painting attributed to Brother Luc, and its new rose window. |

Some very attractive old houses can still be seen in Montereau town centre, four of these are particularly worthy of admiration: the logis du "Grand Cerf" (large stag) (rue des Changes), the old salt loft, now transformed into "le Be Bop" pub (rue de la Poterie), la Charité house (rue du Petit Chaudron) and the house with the sundial (rue D. Casanova). |

If you take the Montereau bridges, you first cross a tributary river, then a larger river: the Yonne thenthe Seine, These bridges saw great historical events, indicated by commemorative plaques. |

At the tip of the confluence, between the Seine bridge and the Yonne bridge, stands the imposing equestrian statue of Napoleon1st made by the son of the Empire General Pajol. This work illustrates the Emperor's final victory in the French Campaign (10th February 1814) |

An unusual sight you will see when strolling round Montereau is the amazingly realistic painted trompe l’oeil walls. Among these, the facade of the Musée de la Faience is very impressive. |

If you climb up to the heights of Montereau, you will arrive at the Surville belvedere. From this promontory, which dominates the Seine and Yonne valleys, you will enjoy a magnificent view over the town and its surrounding area. |

Situated on the hillside, in a verdant setting, the Prieuré Saint-Martin, founded in 908, probably on the initiative of the Count of Champagne, is one of the most remarkable monuments in the region. Its church has retained its proportions from the year 1000 and the raised chancel was not altered in the Gothic era; only the nave was slightly modified in the 12'" and 15'" centuries. |
