WHIT WALKS

ST MARY'S

The walks from St Mary's

Swinton Hall Road

Swinton

What a treat it was walking on Whit Sunday with your best togs on.

We would walk along Swinton Hall Road, from St Mary's School up onto the top road Bolton Road and along to Station Road where we would meet children from other schools.

Then the procession would carry on back down Station Road turning right back along Swinton Hall Road to the school.

Along the way you would be greeted with cheers and given sweets and money.

Next to the school stood St Mary's of the Immaculate Conception Church. Both of these are long gone, but not forgotten.

We all have fond memories of Mrs Mather the Infant teacher, she had a heart of gold and really looked after us all.

Have you any memories to share about St Mary's school and Church or the Whit walks?
