5 MHz portable operating from Hornchurch Country Park in Jan 08. Kite portable pictures located HERE Thanks to John M0UKD and Wayne M0MPG for help getting the portable station on the air.
Portable HF and VHF If the sun is out, then I can often be found working portable VHF or HF. HF is usually either 5 MHZ or 3.5 Mhz Icom 7000 or Yaesu FT 817 QRP. VHF I use a 4e Quad, UHF I have a 48e x-yagi by Jaybeam.
Antenna - Home made Inverted V @ 9 meters, roach pole supported.
Kite Antenna I have recently been trying out kite antennas, and have added both pictures and video onto my website. I hope to try this again once the summer arrives. VHF I take part in the RSGB back packer series, under my main call M0TAZ/p and operate from various locations. Backpack pictures for 2008 are located online. I use a 4E Quad on 144 MHz, and a Jaybeam 48E X-Yagi for 433 MHz.
Power I have a 110Ah Battery, and a selection of 3.3 Ah and 7 Ah Gel cells. Portable operation is always completed on battery power, so if I suddenly go QRT then you can guess why. I have in the past had a roach pole fail, they don't last for ever and on 80m the stress will eventually cause the pole to fail. Roach poles are available form most ham rallies, I usually purchase the 9 or 10 meter versions, but don't use the top section.
