Saturday 31st October 2009

At 12.55 hrs on Saturday 31st October Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Whitby ILB to help in the location of a small dog that had fallen into the sea from the cliffs at Sandsend Ness.  The owners of the dog had been walking on the old railway line , when the dog fell over the cliff. The tide was high with a ground swell braking against the cliff, the owners where unable to see their dog in the water . At 13.12 hrs the ILB proceeded to the scene and searched as close as possible to the cliff from Sandsend Ness to Sandsend , with no success. The ILB returned to station and was rehoused and ready for service at 14.30 hrs

Tuesday 13th October 2009

At 04.55 hrs on Tuesday 13/10/09 Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Whitby ILB to assist the police in the recovery of a stolen cash register that had been thrown into the harbour. The ILB proceeded to the scene at 05.08 hrs and recovered the cash register in half a meter of water under the harbour wall at Scotch Head. The empty till was handed over to the police, the ILB returned to station and was refuelled and ready for service at 05.30 hrs.

Thursday 8th October 2009

At 07.49 hrs Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Whitby ILB to help recover a body from the sea under the Metropole Hotel. On arrival the ILB was directed from the shore by the coastguard, but was unable to reach the body due to the surf.  The ILB then landed on the beach 100 meters away from the area in safety, and two of the crew walked back along the beach and were able to wade into the surf and recover the body, where it was handed over to the police ,coastguard and ambulance. The ILB then returned to station and was refueled, rehoused and made ready for service at 08.40 hrs.

Sunday 27th September 2009

At 22.08 hrs on Sunday 27th September Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Whitby ILB to Assist the Police at Whitby High Level Bridge . The ILB launched at 22.18 hrs and proceeded to the area and found a young male threatening to jump from the bridge into the water, The ILB remained in position under the bridge to render assistance if required. At 21.45 hrs the Police apprehended the young man, and the ILB returned to station and was rehoused and ready for service at 23.00 hrs

Sunday 27th September 2009

At 10.39 hrs on Sunday 27th September, Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Whitby's ILB to help with the recovery of a small terrier type dog. The dogs owner was on holiday in Whitby and was walking along the cliffs at Saltwick, when the dog ran over the edge. Whitby ILB attended an found the dogs remains at the base of the cliff, they were returned back to the owner at the Lifeboat Station at 11.00 hrs

Thursday 24th September 2009

On the 24th September Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Whitby ALB at 10.40 hrs to assist the 27' cabin cruiser Yorkist with engine problems 1.5 miles southeast of South Cheek, Robin Hoods Bay. The vessel was on passage from Scarborough to Whitby with 2 male adults aboard. The lifeboat proceeded at 10.50 hrs and arrived on scene at 11.12 hrs. A tow was connected and the lifeboat proceeded back to Whitby,arriving at 12.15 hrs. The casualty had managed to regain limited power by the time the lifeboat had towed her back to Whitby and so proceeded up to the marina under her own power. The lifeboat was refueled & made ready for service by 12.32 hrs.

Tuesday 1st September 2009

At 15.42 hrs Whitby ALB was paged by Humber Coastguard to assist the 14 meter yacht Juela with an overheating engine. At 15.50 hrs Whitby Lifeboat was alongside, connected a tow and returned back to Whitby Harbour where the yacht Juela with ten persons onboard was placed alongside Whitby Fish Pier. At 16.35 hrs the Lifeboat was refueled and ready for service.

Sunday 16th August 2009

Whitby ALB launched at 12.24 hrs to a rigid inflatable off Upgang. On arrival the owner found he had left the engine in gear and it would not start, the owner discovered the error and as there was no longer any assistance required. The ALB returned to station and was ready for service at 12.40 hrs.

Sunday 16th August 2009

Whitby ALB launched at 11.18 hrs to a 20ft sport fishing boat called Hey Jude broken down 1.5 miles off Whitby coastguard lookout station. The owner had lost the auxiliary engine overboard .casualty towed into Whitby. Lifeboat ready for service at 12.15 hrs.

Saturday 15th August 2009

Whitby ALB launched at 13.35 hrs to motor fishing vessel Gemini, 1 person onboard and broken down 2.5 miles off Whitby. The vessel towed into Whitby. Lifeboat ready for service at 14.16 hrs.

Thursday 13th of August 2009

At 13.37 hrs HM Coastguard requested the launch of Whitby ILB to assist a person in the water at Sandsend. The casualty had capsized from a kayak and was assisted to shore by another Kayaker and was in need of medical assistance.The inshore lifeboat crew administered oxygen to the casualty.The casualty was airlifted to Scarborough hospital by air ambulance. The inshore lifeboat left the scene at 15.09 hrs and rehoused at 15.40 hrs.
