POETRY

This is a recent poem of mine.

Pat Clarke, My Sister

(A Nurse of Tayside)

Hush where she sleeps, no Angel's wing
can wake that heart of Gold
Or that sweet voice no Angel match,
                 it had a ring untold.

               Oh, where the ivy clings
                  and where the tree unfolds,
its leafy bower in the spring
                  her legend shall be told.

Oh brave, sweet heart so sure, so true
you took a piece of us with you.
And as a child I never knew
What greatness had in store for you.
Your deed is done, your song is sung.
Wait till we join you, one by one.

My thoughts will often turn to you,
As days and weeks go by.
My eyes will see the empty space
A star gone from my sky

Were I a bird on painted wing,
I'd fly to where you gone
I'd hold your hand and talk to you
Just as I should have done.

Gray's Elegy "In A Country Churchyard".

This poem begins so serenely and contains the peace of the countryside. I.e. "The Curfew Tolls the knell of parting day". The very same peace that is built into the words of the carol Silent Night. Words can carry the peace of the author.

I also like Shakespeare Sonnets, Robert Frost, Andrew Young and many others.

Dylan Thomas's "Birthday In October". This lovely poem describes a walk on the poet's birthday. It has very good descriptions of his location, and memories of when his was a boy.

Andrew Young's Poem "Hard Frost" has many examples of onomatopoeia. He received the Queen's Medal for Poetry (1952) and an honorary LL.D. degree (Edin. 19511).

Things that interest me: Mysteries, such as what happened to the girls, and their teacher in the story " Picnic at Hanging Rock" which takes place in Australia.
