A modified version of the 'Game of Life': A complex pattern grows from a simple 'seed' according to simple mathematical rules (animation approx 1 minute in length)

A version on a hexagonal grid with a square boundary produces stunning snowflake patterns

Another hexagonal version produces these patterns every 8 rounds.
They rather remind me of Australian Aboriginal art.
