THERE WAS A GREAT DEAL OF UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 1800s

IN HINCKLEY AS THERE WAS IN THE WHOLE OF LEICESTERSHIRE.

 THERE WERE A NUMBER OF REPORTS ON THE WORKING CLASSES ON: -

THE STATE OF LARGE TOWNS AND POPULOUS DISTRICTS MINUTES of 

EVIDENCE 1844 IN WHICH JOHN BROOKS OF HINCKLEY GIVE EVIDENCE ON THE 

CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH PEOPLE LIVED IN HINCKLEY 

THE INQUIRE INTO THE CONDITION OF THE FRAME-WORK KNITTERS IN

LEICESTERSHIRE 1843 WHERE A LARGE NUMBER OF HINCKLEY PEOPLE GAVE EVIDENCE

 BOTH REPORTS WERE PRESENTED TO BOTH HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT

LOCAL PEOPLE WERE EMPLOYED TO RECORD WHAT WAS SAID IN THE INQUIRY

ALL STATEMENTS WERE RECORDED IN THE WORDS OF THE PERSON

INTERVIEWED AND THE INTERVIEWER.
