Thinking of converting to Judaism?
Maybe you are thinking about becoming a converting to Judaism, but you are not sure where to start your search. Possibly the thought of sitting down with a Rabbi seems intimidating or you do not know what questions you should be asking him?
The New Essex Masorti Synagogue welcomes new converts and provides a programme leading to conversion by the Masorti Bet Din.
Jewish law, as spelled out in the Talmud and the codes, allows for conversion, setting a number of requirements to be met by the potential convert before appearing before a Bet Din (Jewish court) and being accepted. These requirements include a period of study and a certain level of practice of Jewish ritual obligations. The actual process of conversion entails ritual immersion in a Mikvah (Ritual bath), Brit Milah (Circumcision) - in the case of men - and accepting the Mitzvot (Commandments).
New Essex Masorti Synagogue provides a serious study programme, and we expect our conversion candidates to adopt the lifestyle of an observant Jew. Those undergoing the conversion process are provided with encouragement and support by the community whilst going through a major change in their lives. All the ritual requirements of Halachah (Jewish law) are observed.
Should you wish to discuss this matter further, please contact our Rabbi for a preliminary discussion.
