A draw.....…in mud
This has got to be the worst pitch I’ve seen in 30 years, including Sundays. When we arrived I think the cows had just left.
The home side adapted to the conditions best, probably because they are used to playing on such a poor surface. Underwood had plenty of possession, but Matrix coped well considering the conditions. It was the Bees who broke the deadlock when Witherington headed on a long pass to Willow who in turn headed on to a great run from Macca who found the net with clinical efficiency. (1-0 after 15 minutes). Mistakes were being made all over the pitch but the one made at the back gifted Underwood the equalizer. (1–1 after 25 minutes)
Half time 1 - 1
The second half started more or less in the same vein with both sides trying to play football on a very poor pitch. The Bees were very unlucky to concede a penalty, when players were sliding allover the place trying to deal with the conditions. Sinbad was very close to saving the penalty but his feet got stuck in the mud!! (2–1 after 60 minutes). The bees pushed for the equalizer and it came from the very consistent general Jackson, for his first of the season (2–2 after 80 minutes). With just minutes to go Underwood launched a very good attack which led to their third goal (3–2 after 85 minutes).
The Bees didn’t give up and in the dying minutes Smith volleyed a cross from Hassall which their keeper some how managed to palm out, but Smith was there again to head the ball to the dangerous Farmery who finished easily (3–3 after 90 minutes).
The ref added 4 minutes on and had it not been for a couple of great saves from King the Bees could have taken all the points. Good game for the neutrals.
