Tel. 01642 244365 “Our mission is to use the creative arts as a powerful tool to give children and young people (aged 0-19) in North Ormesby and the local area a brighter future. Through our specialised work we aim to support them in achieving their physical, mental, social and spiritual potential; so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society.” The project is currently working with over 200 children and young people on a regular basis through after school clubs, workshops, themed holiday clubs, trips and residentials. The project benefits the children and young people of North Ormesby and surrounding area, a community close to the centre of Middlesbrough, which is an area of high social deprivation (ranked in the top 1% of most deprived wards in England). We have recently undertaken a consultation exercise and evaluation/feedback from children, parents and the local community have confirmed the valuable role that a project using the creative arts can play in this deprived community. It provides a fun and creative way for children to learn and develop, and addresses many of the key issues that local children face in terms of poor personal development and communication skills, low educational expectations and poor self-esteem.
“Since coming here I have been able to be myself. I’ve learned how to act and I feel like a superstar when we act on stage in front of people” Leah 13 “I am a better person all round, I am a lot more respectful to family, friends and older people” Nevin 10 “We moved from somewhere else and it helped me to fit in. I have made friends and I have confidence in myself” Noretta 9 “It (TYCP) has always seemed to me to provide an outlet for children/young people to broaden their horizons which they would not otherwise get through school because of the crowded curriculum or their home life. I believe it has done an excellent job and that it should be welcomed in an area like this.” The local regeneration partnership. “The whole emphasis of TYCP is to put into the children's lives something they cannot find anywhere else on the streets of North Ormesby. Local primary school teacher. “Your service is first class. My children have been given some great opportunities and have grown in confidence”, “What you do is fantastic. It has helped both of my children to mix with others safely. Neither of them are shy any more.” Local parents Development of the ProjectTrinity Youth and Children’s Project (TYCP) has developed from the Trinity Centre Dramography Project (started in 2002), by Holy Trinity Church in response to the needs of local children aged 5-13 years. Dramography has had 4 very successful years of using the creative arts with local children to develop their creativity, confidence, pride and self-expression. TYCP was established in December 2006 to expand this work to a wider age group, and to extend management of the project into the wider local community.
