I have completed a degree
in Art & Art History at Cambridge School of Art & Design Anglia
Ruskin University. Whilst there I found that I developed a
special interest in Printmaking. The process in some way
distancing the artist from the initial idea, the repetition honing the
image.
I have a particular
interest in the images from Royston Cave. The medieval figures are carved
into the chalk walls of this bell shaped cavity hidden under the centre of
the town. There is an ongoing debate about the identity of many
of the figures and also about the purpose of the cave although
it is generally considered to be connected to the Knights
Templar.
I have been lucky to be
able to use the Columbia Press on which the local newspaper, 'The Crow'
,was first printed 150 years ago. This is now situated in Royston Museum
which itself is well worth a visit. There is an
excellent programme of exhibitions there.
Last summer I found myself
painting over a series of canvases that I had done following the events on
9/11. The scenes of chaos became covered in colourful flowerlike images.
Maybe a reaction also to the events in London in July. You will find them
in the 'Flower paintings' gallery.
Recently I have been
working on a series of small prints mainly of images taken from medieval
wood carvings. I have been using handmade paper to produce these
prints so that the texture of the paper becomes part of the image.
