- breadcrumbs
- A method of indicating a web page's location within the structure of its parent site; akin to leaving a physical trail of breadcrumbs in order to be able to backtrack and find one's way out of somewhere.
fold, above the- The area of a web page that appears on the screen before scrolling down; ie. the top portion of a page.
fold, below the- The area of a web page that does not appear on the screen until you scroll down to reveal it.
spider- The mechanism that search engines employ to 'crawl' a web site, ie. follow the site's links to gather its data.
white space- The blank (though not necessarily white) area, or padding, left around content to make it appear distinct and uncongested. Created by inserting line feeds, carriage returns, spaces, and other typed characters not visible when rendered by the browser.
