2/3 circular veil directions

A veil made in two pieces, seamed at the centre, where each of the pieces is cut as a third of a circle.

Method:

A person's arm-span is usually the same as their height. By entering height in the form below (feet/inches or metres/centimetres) cutting instructions will be generated for a veil with a straight edge of a similar length to that entered, and a body consisting of two thirds of a circle.

Two methods of cutting are given: in the first no selvedges are used in the construction, so the edge being held by the dancer must be reinforced to prevent stretching. However, it is slightly easier to cut out.

In the second cutting method the edge held by the dance will be the fabric selvedge, and will not need reinforcing.

Measuring:

Veil type: 1 (hold on bias) 2 (hold on selvedge)

Enter height of person requiring veil:

Measurements in Feet/Inches Metres/Centimetres
(feet/metres)
(inches/centimetres)
90cm/36in 112-5cm/45in 150cm/60in

Making up:

Sew together as illustrated above, forming 2/3rds of a circle. Neaten edges, reinforcing held edge if cut on the bias (e.g. apply seam binding tape).
