University Scheme

The Lodge of Connaught & Truth No. 521 has applied to join the University Scheme. Further details from Grand Lodge are also available by following this link.

Presently the application is being considered by Provincial Grand Lodge and Grand Lodge. Subject to successful approval the Lodge will be able to initiate, pass and raise students at a preferential rate, within certain limitations. We will be joining a 'network' of Lodges, which means that if you are a student in Huddersfield we will be able to facilitate your introduction in another Lodge when you have completed your qualification. The University Scheme is an initiative started by Grand Lodge to engage with undergraduate and graduate students.

We would be especially pleased to hear from alumni, past and present members of staff to form an 'Association'. Details of Associate Membership have yet to be finalised, however, this would probably entitle you to receive a copy of the summons and to attend any of our meetings. Six of our full members in the Lodge are gradautes of the University of Huddersfield. Subjects include Music (BMus, PhD), Teaching (PGCE) Management (MA & DMS), Marketing (BA), Engineering (BEng) and English Studies (BA). The purpose would be to create an alumni association that supports the Lodge in its activities in the Unversity Scheme.

Please note that we are a Lodge that is 'part of the University Scheme' rather than a 'University Lodge'. There are no formal ties with the University of Huddersfield, who do not 'formally' recognise us. Please also note that Freemasons do not join for any pecuniary or career benefit, rather it is a social, philanthropic and charitable organisation. Contrary to what the conspiracy theorists would suggest, Freemasonry is a benign, organisation that promotes good citizenship.
