30th Oct 1873	Married Frances Eleanor SPRIGGS in Bedford, Bedfordshire..17 Marriage certificate shows witnesses as Jacob Bell and Elizabeth Gutridge. Silas had signed his marriage certificate with an X and the vicar hadwritten beside it "the mark of Silas Beeby". Frances had signed her own name. Silas is shown to be "of full age" which is taken to mean over 21. Frances was 19. They were both resident in Hassett Street, Bedford. Vicar was John Bennett. Father of Frances is given as Thomas Spriggs, a parchment maker. Father of Silas is shown as William Beeby, labourer. Certificate is 1873, No. 283. Married at Holy Trinity Church, Bedford, Bedfordshire.

Silas is shown in various sources as having a number of occupations:
Horse breaker, bricklayers labourer, general labourer, brewers labourer, stone quarryman, groom domestic and farm labourer.

Apparently Bill (William?) told someone that there were 12 children and one died very young.

Was baptised in Bedford St Paul in Nov 1853 as was his sister Julia in 1851. The address was given as Union Square in both cases.

Annie Beebe is perhaps not his sister but his daughter.

Was born in or before 1853. I cannot find him in the General Registerof Births and have carefully searched 1849-54 for Silas Beebe and Beeby. Possibly he was born in St Paul, Bedford.
The marriage certificate of his daughter Nellie (1929) shows Silas asdeceased but this cannot be certain. Silas would be about 76 in 1929although he may have died several years earlier. Albert Woods was born in 1907 and presumably Silas was not the father. Silas would have been about 54 in 1907.

The General Register shows the death of a Silas Beeby age 64 in Marylebone ref: 1a 503. I am quite certain that this is a different personas he would have been born in 1834, twenty years too early.

1881 census for Bedford shows Silas Beeby age 28 living in Bedford StPaul with three other people. William age 65 (head), Mary Ann 66 (wife of head), Annie 5 (daughter of head), and Silas. Silas is shown tobe married rather than single or widower and it seems very unlikely that Annie is the daughter of William as stated. He and his wife Mary are too old unless Annie was adopted. I think Annie is more likely to be daughter of Silas. Unless the age of Annie is wrong. Where is thewife of Silas? Is it Frances or Ellen?
1861 census shows age 7 born in Bedford and living with his parents.

On the marriage certificate of Sarah Elizabeth Grace (Beeby) dated 1906 she shows her father Silas as deceased.

In 1891 census Silas is at the Leighton Buzzard District Workhouse asa "casual - groom" age 37 with his wife Ellen 28, and children Ellen 7, George 5, Elizabeth 2, and Samuel age 5 months.

Died at Gravel Pit House, Gravel Pit Road, Faversham, Kent.
