and subsequently (we imagine) an adolescent. His current condition is
hard to define, let alone comprehend. He is unforthcoming about his
history. And about everything else. Covert observation of his
behaviour (if we may call it that) has disclosed that his creative
inspirations are _The Hunting Of the Snark_, an ancient book of
logarithms and a small, rather undistiguished piece of topaz.
Enlightened? Neither are we.
Jeremy Henty has been a mathematician, a hospital porter and an
auxiliary nurse. He now works in software, reaping the rich rewards
of a profession where the industry standard is "does not work".
His
qualifications include a BA (double first) in Mathematics, a blue belt
in Aikido and an entry in a school report card under Physics that
reads "Could do better with less effort" (which perplexes him
to this
day). He bought a drum kit to distract his mind from the state of his
Phd. This saved his sanity, albeit not the Phd. He has had several
letters published in the _New Scientist_, but to his chagrin everyone
remembers the silly one about cows licking their noses that appeared
in the _Guardian_. He spends his spare time playing music (mostly
drum kit, bodhran and melodeon), folk-dancing, singing, playing Doom
on his PC and writing software that will one day (honest) become a
fully-fledged mathematics editor. Or something else just as cool.
