| Deaf until an operation when he
was ten, Cos spent his teens messing about with anything to hand that made
a noise and old reel to reel tape machine. Getting job as an Oceanographer
he used his first pay packet to buy a guitar and a few months later a Wasp
synth. A succession of punk, jazz rock and folk bands followed while he
continued to experiment with electronics and computers. After a decade of
spending 4 months a year at sea studying mud and plankton, he figured this
was no job for someone who gets seasick. And, having spent most of his spare
time creating odd sounds, he decided to study music, technology and theatre
- eventually ending up in Cambridge attempting a PhD in Electroacoustics.
Many of his sound designs have been used in video, theatre and dance.
Claims to fame:
1/ His father threw Jimi Hendrix out of the house and burnt his coat
2/ He went to a girl's school with over 500 girls and only one other boy
3/ He was married to Gertrude Lawrence's grand-daughter
4/ He was once brought dinner by Brian Eno
