RADIO
NORTHSEA SHIP PHOTO -
IN HARBOUR |
|

£ 2.99 GBP
|
Here's a photo-flight style black and white picture of the Mebo 2, home of 70's offshore pirate radio station Radio Northsea International. This picture was taken in Scheveningen harbour in Holland, in early September 1974, and shows the ship coming alongside the wharf, towed by the stations tender, the Eurotrip.
Coming on air in December 1970, this station attracted its fair share of problems. From a failed attempt to tow the ship away in 1970, through various jamming episodes, and a bombing in 1971, the Mebo saw them all....
The ship housed one of the most powerful transmitters ever to be situated on a pirate radio station. A massive 105Kw AM transmitter made RNI, as it was affectionately called, receivable over much of the UK and Central Europe.
The station was finally forced to close in August 1974, when the Dutch Government introduced their Marine Offences Bill, outlawing offshore radio stations.
This picture measures 16cm x 12cm, and is presented in a card sleeve, and will be mailed to you in a hard backed envelope.
