Initially, The
Old School House had no running water (they used to drain brown water
from the peat bogs, which then had to be strained). Originally, it also
had no gas - it was lit by oil lamps, and there was no electricity. The lavatory was, of course, outside!

| They cooked on a solid fuel range.
Lena's niece (EAS) used to love her fruit pies made using pastry made
