HOUSE CROW MONITOR

(last updated 24 January 2004)

The House Crow Corvus splendens has a native range which stretches throughout the Indian Subcontinent, including southern Iran, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka where it is very common in cities, towns and villages. Over the last century they have spread on board ships, establishing colonies in about 20 countries bordering the Red Sea, Indian Ocean and its islands, where they have usually reached pest status. Since 1994 a colony has established in the Netherlands: the first outside the tropics. Lone birds have also turned up in 12 other locations in Europe, Australia, Chile and USA

This web site is part of an ongoing programme to monitor the continuing world-wide invasion of the House Crow and its changing status in places where it has already established.
