Dr. COLIN PRATT'S
CONDUCTING
POLYMER
HOMEPAGE
I have recently completed a Ph. D.
investigating
metal containing conducting polymers. What are conducting polymers?
Quite
simply they are novel plastics that conduct electricity. They all have
one thing
in common, that being a conjugated backbone, which is alternating
double and
single carbon-carbon bonds. This research is being done at Kingston University
with
the help of Prof. Peter Foot
. When
I was a lowly B.Sc. student I wrote a couple essays about the subject.
These
are a good introduction to conducting polymers for chemically minded
people.
These are linked to on the left.
My first area of research was the
mechanism of how
cobalt and nickel effects the polymerisation of 3-alkylthiophenes. I
then
prepared novel metal containing conducting polymers with finely tuned
electrochromic properties. As soon as I have any results I can reveal
on the
internet I will link them from this page.
If you have any questions please feel
free to email me and I
will respond as soon
as possible.
My other interests include role-playing
games,
such as AD&D and science fiction programmes such as Star Trek
and
Babylon 5.
I have a brother, Andrew,
who lives with his beautiful wife, Oh-Kyung and his two daughters,
Henrietta
and Cherie.
