Sharkface

Wingspan: 28 inches

Engine: Cox 049 Babe Bee (with muffler)

Type: single channel

Description
The Sharkface is one of Eric Cluttons most famous creations. It was designed in the single channel days (1965, I think), when the Mini Cooper and Twiggy were in the news, and almost all models flown were guided free flight machines, slow and ponderous. The Sharkface was fast, quite fast, or very fast, depending on what engine in the 0.75cc to 1.5cc recommended range you used. It was also very agile, and was designed to be fun, fun, and more fun. Mr Clutton really hit the spot with this model, and many were built.

My copy only has a silenced Cox 049 to tow it around the sky, but it still whizzes around like it is being chased by a bad tempered hornet. What it would be like with a 1.5cc diesel up the front is anyones guess. I have always wanted to build one and having done so I can say that i like the Sharkface, it is lots of fun, and being single channel requires minimal effort to get it into the air.

For it's size it is suprising how good the glide is, and I particularly like to fly it up to a dot in the sky at the end of the engine run and then glide and glide and glide.

Engine
The Cox engine is just right for the Sharkface, having a high power to weight ratio, plus it is one of the silenced versions, so is also quiet. It is easy to start and runs for ages on a whiff of 15% nitro castor fuel.
