Mr. & Mrs. Bushby are the proprietors of The St Georges Residential Care Home and have 12 years experience of running a care home for the elderly. Mrs. Bushby has been a fully qualified nurse since 1977 and is very much involved in the day-to-day running of the home. Mr. and Mrs. Bushby are very proud of the home and maintain it to a high standard. The deputy manager is Mrs. Lynn Young who holds NVQ level 3.

St Georges Lodge employs twenty care staff, the majority of whom have been with us for many years. They are all experienced in care of the elderly. Two staff members are currently studying for NVO level II and this will be offered to all staff in the near future. Hands on training and relevant outside training are offered on a regular basis.


At St Georges Lodge our prime objective is to provide a relaxed, homely and happy environment for ladies and gentlemen aged over 65. We want service users to feel at home; to achieve fulfillment of life with no undue pressures and to attain peace of mind in a safe environment.

Our service of care to you will give you as much choice and freedom as possible.


You, as an individual, will have the right to view any information held by St Georges Lodge in your name. This includes your care plan, which you will be invited to contribute to. A pre-assessment will be carried out which will enable us to deliver a service tailor made for you.

Trial visits are welcome, which will enable you to see for yourself if St Georges Lodge correctly meets your needs.

Emergency admissions are at the discretion of the Manager and will be subject to the same terms, conditions and assessments as pre-arranged admissions.

Service users are entitled to the services of the primary care team, including the District Nurse. We will maintain a high level of personal care and medical attention will be sought immediately if necessary.


Outside interest will be encouraged on entering the home. Our in house activities include bingo, skittles, card games, visiting entertainers and quiz afternoons. There is a piano in the lounge. We have an activities schedule on display with details of the events.

Visiting clergy hold services in the home on a regular basis.
We operate open visiting and encourage maintaining links with the local community.
A yearly quality survey will be distributed and a report circulated to all residents, families and concerned bodies.
The home complies with all fire precautions and staff fire training is held every six months.

Regular reviews of residents care plans are carried out with consultation with residents or their representatives regarding health and welfare.

St Georges Lodge is registered for 26 service users, men or women, over the age of 65.
All 26 bedrooms are single and room sizes are enclosed on a separate sheet. 22 rooms have their own en-suite facilities and w.c’s are easily accessible on both ground and first floors. There is a ‘Parker’ assisted bath available for service users who have difficulty with mobility.

There is a fully operating passenger lift from the ground to the first floor. All the rooms have level access except room 20 which has a small step. Regular risk assessments are carried out to ensure suitability of the occupant.

If a service user is accommodated in a room which becomes unsuitable for any reason, there would be an option to change rooms if a more suitable room is available at the time.

Care staff are trained via induction to respect the privacy and dignity of residents at all times and to uphold St Georges Lodge aims and objectives.

You may feel free to question or complain about the service you receive at any time.

Please ensure that you have a copy of our complaints procedure and that you fully understand it.

We undertake to keep the home and grounds in good order at all times. We will provide three meals per day, plus hot beverages at appropriate times. We will provide a laundry service for personal clothing on a daily basis. We will provide adequate heating to all rooms and communal areas. A call help system is in place, to provide assistance when necessary.

St Georges Lodge has regular monthly meetings for service users to air their views and make suggestions for improvement of the quality of care. Relatives are welcome to attend.
