Live Acoustic Special at the Priory

How to find the venue:
*  By car... From junction 23 of M1... Follow sign for Loughborough A512. Turn right after 1/4 mile (lights) onto Snells Nook Lane. Priory is 1/4 mile up at the crossroads. There's a big car park! Postcode is LE11 3YD
*  Without car... From town centre... It's a 3 mile walk. Kinchbus No 12 will go most of the way to Nanpantan but check details in advance.

Future dates:    6 March.    Further dates for 2012 to be announced later as I want to synchronise with international artists' tours.

I organise this one.  It takes place roughly every 6 weeks at The Priory.

£3 on the door (£2 for concessions - unemployed, students, OAPs etc) all of which goes to Oxfam.

A few details to whet your appetite:-

• There are usually 4 or 5 acts at each gig.
• Ages range from 15 to 84.
• Music might include folk/roots, blues, jazz, country, flamenco and classical... anything acoustic even didgeridoo solo or brass band
• Guitars dominate but other instruments are definitely more than welcome. The gig offers a platform for musicians to play for an appreciative listening audience and other musicians.  I think it fair to say that, in England at least, if there is live music in pubs or bars it is usually background music.  This is even the case when the music is loud.  People go there to talk, have a laugh with their friends or meet up to go somewhere else.  This can be disheartening to the musician who might take it personally.  Folk clubs, jazz clubs and this event are exceptions.

• A meeting place for musicians. 

• A way of encouraging talented performers to take things a bit further.  I offer stereo recordings to the performers to let them hear themselves from the audience's perspective and to give them something they can use to promote themselves.  I can also sometimes offer photographs taken by friends.
  
  How acoustic is acoustic?
  The gig is billed as "Live Acoustic..." and that is all I am strict about.  There won't be recorded accompaniment or instruments plugged in if I can help it or sounds processed.   I use a sound reinforcement system that simply makes the performances audible at the back without changing the sound at all.  I went to great lengths to obtain a natural sound.  (See article on Acoustic PA Solution.)

Loughborough Acoustic Club at The Fennel Street Club

The Club was formed to provide a platform for budding musicians wanting to play in front of an audience. Classical guitar, bluegrass, folk, roots and blues represent some of the types of music so far performed. If you are a musician and would like to take part, or want to be a 'fly on the wall' come along and see what we do. We meet every Thursday, 8o'clock, and have regular Guest "Spotlight Nights".
