Throughout the Rocky anthology Rocky came to blows against Four main opponents.

In Rocky I and Rocky II, Carl Weathers took the role of playing Apollo Creed, the cocky champion expecting to make light work of Balboa. He of course later became one of Rocky's greatest allies in Rocky III before dying in Rocky IV. In Rocky III, the infamous Mr T played the part of viscous slugger Clubber Lang, the man set to destroy Balboa. In Rocky IV, Ivan Drago, played by Dolph Lundgren, was the most fearsome opponent yet, seemingly invincible!

In the final Rocky movie, Rocky V, Tommy Gunn played by real boxer Tommy Morrison, befriends Rocky, convincing him to train him up to a title shot. Gunn gets greedy and is influenced against Rocky by rich promoters offering him quicker routes to the top.
