Local Attractions

With easy access to the motorway & main coast road, the apartment is ideally placed to make travelling to other places easy.
The towns of Estepona, Torremolinos, Sabinillas, Casares, Mijas, Ronda, Fuengirola, Puerto Banus and Gibraltar are all within easy reach.
This page shows just a few of the local places that are worth a visit during your stay. We would recommend using the N340 (rather than the motorway) for getting to these places, to avoid the toll fees.
Estepona

Situated only a 10 minute drive from the apartment (via the N340) Estepona is an attractive town with sandy beaches, spacious promenade & a town centre full of shops, bars and restaurants.
Estepona's coastline is over 20Km long & has clean wide beaches with lifeguard watchtowers; there are many beach bars & restaurants that specialise in fish & seafood as well as traditional Spanish meals.
Estepona's marina is also worth a visit. Whilst not as exclusive as Puerto Banus there are a good selection of bars and restaurants to be found & enjoyed.
Gibraltar

Gibraltar is only a short drive away from the apartment, which makes it an ideal place for a day trip. However, do not take your car as parking is impossible
Instead, use the underground car parks at La Linea and catch a bus, or make the 10 minute walk across part of the airport runway, to the town centre.
During your trip to Gibraltar, take the cable car from the end of Main Street to the Top of the Rock, stopping off at Ape's Den to see the famous barbary apes. From here you can also take an easy walk to Saint Michael's cave. You can also visit the Gibraltar Museum or take dolphin spotting trips from the Queensway Quay.
Casares

Situated only a 30 minute drive from the apartment, Casares is a really spectacular town. The castle at the top of the hill was originally called Castellum Caesaris (Ceasar's Castle) and the name Casares derives from this. The Arabic name (Caxaras) means 'The Fortress'. The castle was impregnable for centuries, from early Roman Times up to the time of the war against France & Napoleon. Built into the hills it offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
The town is easily accessible from the coast, taking a turning from the Estepona road that leads up into the hills of the Sierra Bermeja.
The drive itself takes you through a scenic route of hills & wooded areas but nothing can quite prepare you for the spectacular view of the white walled houses that have been built over the hill, which has a Moorish castle on the top.
There are a few restaurants and bars in the town & it is recommended that you sit outside (weather permitting) and enjoy the views whilst you have your meal. If you're feeling energetic, take a walk to the summit - you'll be rewarded with even better views across the valley, all the way back to the Mediterranean in the distance.

Ronda

Ronda is located 50 km – 1 hour's drive - from San Pedro de Alcantara on the Coast. The road winds up through the mountains of the Sierra Bermeja, and then descends into the Serrania de Ronda and the town itself.
Ronda is one of Andalucia's loveliest towns, steeped in history. It stands on a towering plateau in the mountains of Malaga Province, and is famous throughout Spain for the plunging river gorge which divides the medieval from the 18th century parts of the town.
This gorge is known as "El Tajo" - The Cliff and is spanned by a stone bridge, which once housed a prison. Visitors love to peer down into the gorge, to see the waters of the River Guadalevín.
One of the most charming and fascinating towns in Andalucia, it is very popular with day-trippers from the Costa del Sol, and has a wide range of cafés and restaurants. However, it retains all of its traditional charm and relaxing atmosphere.
Ronda is also famous for its bullring, the oldest, and the most beautiful one in Spain; the arena itself is also the country's largest. When there are no fights, the bullring is open to visitors, and has a fascinating museum with many mementos of Spain's most renowned bullfighters.
Mijas

Approximately a 40 minute drive from the apartment, Mijas is a picturesque town that has managed to retain its character whilst managing to cater for the tourists that visit it.
Be warned, it can be very busy in Mijas as it is a very popular destination & there are usually several coach parties visiting, as well as those who have driven in their cars. Do not let this put you off though, as it is a town well worth seeing, full of white houses & winding streets, excellent shops, bars & restaurants.
On the central square (Plaza de la Virgen) you will find decorated donkeys that can be hired as taxis for rides around the town.
Concerts & fiestas are frequently held in the vicinity of the square and it is a popular meeting place. Next to the square is a little park & this offers fine views of the surrounding countryside. Close by you will find the Santuario de la Virgen - a little chapel hollowed out of a rock.
Puerto Banus
Approximately a 20 minute drive from the apartment, Puerto Banus is a superbly located marina filled with luxurious yachts & boats and is well worth a visit. Backed by mountains, a ring of brilliant white houses surrounds the marina which is filled with boats of all sizes. Around the port you will find a string of cafés, bars and restaurants, along with boutiques and shops.
Whilst the 'front line' restaurants are the places to be seen in, you will get better value for money in the restaurants behind them, or tucked away up flights of stairs. If you are lucky you may get to see some celebrities as Puerto Banus is very popular with them.
At night, the place gets even busier than it is during the day as the restaurants, piano bars, discos & nightclubs start to fill up.
