First World War 1914 - 1918

 

BROWN F. Private 6th Border Regiment

Volunteering in November 1914, he was in the following June sent to Gallipoli.  There he saw heavy fighting at Suvia Bay and Chunuk Bair and after the evacuation proceeded to Egypt.  On this front he took part in engagements at Sollum, Katia and El Fasher and in August 1916 was transferred to France.

He served on the Western Front  until after the close of hostilities and was in action at Arras. Bullecourt, Ypres, Cambrai and in the retreat and advance of 1918. 

He was demobilised in March 1919 and holds the 1914-1915 Star and the General Service and Victory Medals.
