Stephen  beat Welshman Mark Williams 18-11 and make it a magnificent seven, surpassing the modern-day record of six wins he had shared with Ray Reardon and Steve Davis.

QUOTE: "Without doubt, this is worth more than the other six titles put together. It was the one last ambition I had in snooker and I've proved I can do it."

The 2000-2001 season was the first since 1987-88 that Stephen had failed to win a world ranking title. 

Stephen victory in the European Open December 2001 was his first ranking event victory since the British Open in September 1999.

Its certainly getting harder to win major ranking titles now as his Regal Welsh Win in January 2003  was his first since December 2001, but what a performance he did and he showed the Stephen Hendry that we all know can play, with 4 centuries in the final it was vintage Stephen Hendry , if I am honest I thought if he won the world final against ebdon, he would have retired  and said ok if you  want to be the greatest player ever match my record.

What a magnificent match against Ronnie O'Sullivan both players at the top of their game but it was Hendry that was the 9-6 winner of the British Open in November 2003 , 5 consecutive centuries in 5 frames in a ranking final for the first time 3 from Ronnie and 2 from Stephen
