For further details, visit the Arnold Who website here.

It was a mixed weekend for our remaining two local sides in the 2nd Round of the F.A.Vase. EMCL side Dunkirk went out to Stamford-based, Blackstones. The United Counties League strugglers eased to a 2-0 victory against the Boatmen. Ironically, there was better news to come from Dunkirk's home ground, the Ron Steel Sports Ground. Perennial groundhoppers Arnold Town were tenants for the day as they hosted hosted Pilkington XXX. A resounding 4-0 victory, helped by a Craig Mitchell brace, earned the Eagles a trip to Midland Alliance League leaders, Market Drayton Town.

HEADS UP

Cup shock: Selston FC

For all results & fixtures, visit the Intermediate Cup section here.

Headstocks caused the shock of the round in the 2nd stage of the Notts Intermediate Cup. The Cinderhill pub side made home advantage pay by dismissing Rainworth miners Welfare Reserves 3-1. There was also a surprise at the Goosedale Sport Ground as Notts Junior Cup holders Selston knocked out one of the pre-tournament favourites, CML side Bulwell Town. It was a double blow for the Bulls, having missed out on a chance to host rivals Bulwell Football Club in the next round. Elsewhere, Retford Town failed to make home advantage count as they went out to Midland Amateur League leaders, FC 05. They will now face a daunting trip to the Bill Stokeld Stadium to face Carlton Town reserves.

History was made at Coronation Park, as Eastwood Town edged their way into the F.A.Cup 2nd Round for the very first time. The Badgers had to come from behind against a spirited Brackley Town to claim their place with a 2-1 victory courteously from a 63rd minute strike from Lindon Meike. Assistant Manager, John Ramshaw commented, “The fans were amazing today, louder than the Wrexham game, we told the players at half time to go out and win the match for them.” The Badgers have been rewarded with a home tie against League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers in the next round. Notts County are also through following a hard fought win at Sutton United, Richard Butcher heading home the winner for the Pies. They will now entertain Kettering United or Lincoln City at Meadow Lane. Mansfield Town failed to make it a hat-trick of Notts wins following a 3-1 defeat at local rivals Chesterfield.

Eastwood Town are into the 1st Round of the F.A.Cup following a fully deserved 2-0 win against Wrexham.  Few outside of the region expected the Badgers to take anything from a side who have disposed of Premiership sides Arsenal, West Ham and Middlesbrough over the last 16 years. Yet the side dubbed a 'pub team' by the less knowledgeable in Wrexham handled their more illustrious opponents with relative ease to earn a home tie against Step 3 opponents, Brackley Town. Mansfield town made it a trio of Notts 1st Round entrants with a hard fought 1-0 win against fellow Conference side, York City. Stags now go to near neighbours Chesterfield.

Eastwood Town recorded a sensational 0-0 draw at Wrexham at the weekend in the 4th Qualifying Round of the F.A.Cup. Roared on by over 150 Badgers supporters, Badgers Manager Paul Cox was delighted with the backing the team received commenting, "The dressing room was situated underneath the stand where our fans were congregated and my team talk consisted of "Just listen to that" as the Badger fans boing boing'd above. The noise lifted the players and everyone on the playing staff appreciated the crowd participation". Coronation Park is sure to be buzzing with anticipation tomorrow night, with over 500 Dragons fans expected to make the journey over. A winnable home tie against Brackley Town awaits the winners. Elsewhere, Retford United's glorious run cam to an end, with a rather harsh 3-1 defeat to Alfreton Town, Mansfield Town face the mouth-watering prospect of a trip to bitter rivals Chesterfield if they can take care of York city at Field Mill and Notts County enter the fold with a trip to Sutton United.

Retford United and Eastwood Town are just one game away from the 1st Round Proper of the the World's most prestigious cup competition. A 25th minute strike from Matt Fisher ensured that that Retford saw off stubborn resistance from Newcastle Benfield. The Badgers now have a real chance of progressing further, and attracting a bumper crowd, having drawn opposition from across the border in the form of Conference North side Alfreton Town in the next round at Cannon Park. The other Nottinghamshire badgers, Eastwood Town, visit former-football league side Wrexham. The Badgers recorded a stunning 2-0 replay victory at Conference North side Harrogate Town, the first time Harrogate have failed to win at home this season. MAROONS TO LAND SOON You can find out more about the progress at Eagle Valley by visiting the Arnold Who Forum here.

Following months of turmoil and secracy, Arnold Town Football Club has been given the green light to hold home games at its new ground. Gedling Borough Council last night agreed to allow the three main pitches, car park, dressing rooms and clubhouse to all become operative at the £1.4m Eagle Valley. It also approved changes to plans for the fence around the main pitch and the position of stands behind the clubhouse. The Council did not approve the use of eight other pitches because it wants more details on a fence that would separate the pitches from the A614 Ollerton Road and B6386.Oxton Road, when building is finished. The clubhouse and stands are still to be completed, and it is unclear exactly when the Eagles will move in, but with the major barrier lifted, there is at least light at the end of a very long tunnel. The eagles became homeless in April 2008 when they were evicted from their former home in Aronld town centre.

MINER HICCUP For more discussion on Eagle Valley, visit the Unofficial forum here. You can find out more about Plains Road, with the necessary directions here.
Arnold Town are set to groundshare at nearby Gedling Miners Welfare as the Eagle Valley saga shows no signs of ending. The Eagles were due to have played their first game at their new home last Saturday, but with Eagle Valley far from being ready for Step 5 football they had to hastily rearrange their NCEL clash with Mickleover for Gedling Town's Riverside Ground. GMW have since stepped in to help out the Eagles in the immediate future. Mystery surrounds the persistent delays to the seemingly plagued Eagle Valley project. With no information coming out of the club, the inevitable rumours of unpaid workers, Council wranglings and drainage problems have surfaced. Club Officials will only comment that the situation is a 'delicate one'. In the meantime, the Eagles will take refuge at Plains Road, which, incidentally, is closer to Arnold Town Centre than their proposed new home.

JOYCE GO FOR A BURTON You can find out more about Burton Joyce Football Club here.
NAA Premier side Burton Joyce have folded. Having joined the NAA 4th Division in 1999, Burton enjoyed many good seasons in the top flight. Burton's Committee have expressed their concern that the whole situation wasn't handled very well and finances appear to have been a major issue leading to the resignation. In the Committee's September meeting the minutes stated: "The resignation was not handled in an appropriate manner. The effects on the Senior squad, losing our Premier status and the nature of the financial returns submitted are all matters of concern and disappointment". NSL side Buwell FC have received a bye in the 1st Round of the Notts Intermediate Cup as a result. Discussions are to take place at a future club meeting to explore whether senior football will continue at a club which currently runs thirteen junior sides.

WREN THINGS ARE GOING WELL... To read more about the Wren's, visit their website thorugh their clubs page here.
Rainworth Miners Welfare have complimented their early success on the field, by making great strides off of it. Following an extension to the Main Stand, the seating capacity at their Kirklington Road has been increased to 159. This, alongside the 62 seats in the Allotments Side Stand, has raised the total seating capacity at the ground to 221. As a result, Kirklington Road now meets the requirements to stage Step 4 football in the UniBond League Division One South. The move ensures that they will not fall into the same trap which Pickering Town fell into last season who despite installing sufficient seats, did not meet the requirement of having at least 150 in the one stand, and were refused entry to the UniBond League.
