About My Photography |
About The Photographs |
|
| I have been taking photographs for many years. I started in the 1960s with a Brownie 127. In the early 70s I bought a Zenith. By the end of that decade I had progressed to a Pentax MX. After a brief break from still photography to try out video, which I didn't find satisfying enough, I reentered photography with a Canon EOS. This is now my main 35mm system. Recently I added a Bronica medium format camera to my kit. This is now seeing more use than the EOS The main subject areas that I have tended to photograph have been Wildlife, Coastal/Water and Landscapes. More recently, I have got interested in Art photography - expression through photography rather than just capturing life as it is. I Tried wedding photography once loads of hassle and not particularly inspiring. |
The photographs on this site have been taken over the last 30 years. However the majority of them are more recent. The films use over these years have been many and varied from the well known varieties of Kodak, Ilford and Fuji to films that have not survived the test of time, such as Orwochrome, albeit an excellent, high-contrast film. I now tend to restrict myself to Fuji (Velvia and Provia 100F & 400F) for colour transparencies and Ilford (FP4, HP4 and Delta 3200) for monochrome. Although occasionally I will use other films as the fancy takes me. I sometimes also use the C41-process monochrome films. My Camera kit includes:

About my Recording |
About the Sounds |
|
| I have been recording sounds almost as far back as I can remember. My main interest has always been in recording the sounds of the natural world. I have also undertaken more conventional recordings for both local radio and hospital radio. I also occasionally record demos for bands. These days I concentrate on nature recordings, either as reference recordings, for use in audio documentaries, and as components of "sound images". |
All the sound samples on this site have been recorded on either a Sony RZ30 Personal Minidisc recorder or an HHB 500 Portadisc. I currently use a small selection of microphones:
I use TDK MD-RXG 74 minidiscs. For monitoring during recording, I use a pair of Sennheiser HD-25 "Closed" headphones. |

About Me |
About The Website |
|
|
I trained as a physics teacher and went into teaching and lecturing. Whilst in teaching, I joined the computer revolution in the early 80s. I found the politics of teaching a real pain. I then moved to the computer industry as a technical author and ended up writing training courses. Later I got involved in multimedia design and development that was a lot more fun. Following that I moved into main straem IT. That's where I am now. The creation of the World Wide Web was a real high point, I was fortunate enough to be involved from the beginning. My interests now focus around photography, recording the sounds of the natural world, electroacoustics and experimental music and design. I also dabble occasionally in the history of my family. |
The two main tools that I have used to create this Web site are Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop has a useful automation wizard to generate on-line galleries. This is particularly useful as you can customise the templates that it uses to generate the gallery pages. See the Acknowledgments section below for bits I have used from other sources.
