Creating Your Own Web Site

The key stages to creating a webs site are:

  1. Plan what you want to say
  2. Come up with a "design" for the site - what do you want it to look like
  3. Create the site
  4. Copy the site to wherever it is going to be hosted
  5. Maintain the site

Plan What You Want to Say

This is probably the most difficult stage. It is somewhat like trying to write your first novel when faced with a sheet of blank paper.

The following are some ideas of where to start and what to include.

  • Home page - This is the first page that people will usually see. Consider a bit like the cover, frontpiece and table of contents all rolled into one.
  • Gallery - This can be used to display your pictures. There are a number of different styles you can adopt.
  • About - Tell people about yourself:
  • Links - Provide some pointers to other sites that you have found useful - but don't over do it.
