Picking up where Sonic Origin left off, and taking it further...
Sonic DIY combines accurate Sonic engine physics and gameplay with an easy-to-use designer that allows you to create your own levels. In addition, you can even play created levels in the two-player online mode! Those with a 56k modem connection need not worry - you can now play online with another person properly, unlike Sonic Origin. The physics and control from Sonic Origin have been improved upon with a new engine that's more precise and even faster. You can also change into Super Sonic/Tails, =) for even more gravity-defying madness.
The level editor itself allows you to place tiles from three different zones, along with boxes, badniks obstacles and other pieces. The editor can be operated almost entirely with a mouse, or in conjunction with shortcut keys, making level design a snip. You can create realistic levels with hundreds, or even well over a thousand objects in place. We're talking serious level creation here ;) Saved levels are also automatically encrypted for protection.
Well, I'm sorry to say this, but the game has now been canned and probably wont see the light of day. The game really was a mess on the inside, and I was finding it increasingly difficult to work with. Also...to be honest, nobody really used the level design feature much anyway, so I wonder whether it would have been worthwhile. That was the idea behind Sonic DIY, after all - allowing those people who were good at level design but unable to make their own engines stand out.
