Oldskool Sonic platforming action with a modern 2-player twist!
Sonic Origin is a game with an advanced engine that plays just like Sonic 2. The screenshots to the side really don't do it justice - play it and see for yourself ;). What the screenshots do show, though, is that not only do you have Sonic and tails, but also their super forms (two-player only) in this early one-level demo.
There are two modes of play in this demo - 'one player', where you just have to get to the end, and 'two player competitive', where you race against each other. The best bit? It's online. Either host a game and set the options, or join a game with the other person's IP address, and you're off. Race for the best time, or for the most points in a number of different categories categories (like Sonic 2).
There is also a mini-chat in the settings and results screen, for friendly discussion...or for cursing the other guy who wiped the floor with you. whatever =P. have fun and don't forget to look at the readme for additional info on two-player.
Note - The two-player mode is yet to be 'optimised' (or fully debugged), so those people with slow connections may have to wait a while for the results to appear, amongst other things. I recommend that you have at least a 128kb broadband/ISDN connection, for acceptable results. Unfortunately, a 56k modem connection is too slow and will not work well.
This game was scrapped due to a few reasons (such as how awkward it was to work with)...but I have already made a 'successor' to this game - Sonic DIY - which you can find in the demos section. Well, what are you waiting for?
