This dual band handie represents excellent value for money, at less than £ 90 for the radio with drop-in charger or less than £ 140 for the radio and standard accessory kit.
Made in China, these radios measure 58 x 105 x 39mm and weigh 250g , making them a very comfortable unit to hold and operate – even in a childs hands! As standard the radio is supplied with a 1300mA 7.4V Li-ion battery, flexible dual band antenna, belt clip and ‘intelligent’ charger unit. Accessories available include a speaker/microphone, AA battery pack, battery eliminator (for use in a vehicle), programming lead, software, cloning cable, car charger, headset and replacement high capacity battery.
The case is made of plastic with a die cast chassis beneath which helps with dissipation of heat from the PA unit. Additionally, the radio can be used to listen to the broadcast FM band and also has a torch function, speech synthesiser and roger beep!
Surprisingly the radio has all the functions one usually finds on much more expensive units, including dual watch, 128 memories with alphanumeric tagging, CTCSS and DCS encoding/decoding and DTMF function.
With the option of easy programming with a computer, the radio is simple to operate with good battery life and fun to use.
