| Sports acro is a branch of gymnastics that includes two principal disciplines - tumbling and
pairs/team floor routines. It is a sport enjoyed to the highest level by both men and women, requiring a
demanding combination of strength, balance and flexibility. |

| In the floor events (men's & women's pairs, mixed pairs, women's trio and men's fours), balances
and tumbles are choreographed to music, with marks awarded for both technical and artistic content. |
| |
| There are no 'set routines', but there are recognised elements and balances of varying difficulty
for the performers to combine. |
| |
| Gymnasts compete at a level appropriate to their skills and experience rather than their age. |
| |
| Tumbling requires precision, strength and agility to execute a series of moves along a straight
track. Cartwheels, round-offs, flicks and 'whips' are used to built the necessary momentum to perform multiple
aerial somersaults at the advanced levels of this sport. The sequences ('runs') are graded according to the
National Development Programme scheme, and gymnasts are also grouped by
age. |
