| What an event! Competing at our Harvey Hadden home, Nightflyers managed to field 32 entrants for the final grade 3-6 competition of 2006. Considering the event clashed with a grade 2 national (not our fault!!), we had a great turnout of nearly 240 competitors. Many thanks to everyone who came along - we hope you enjoyed our hospitality. | |
| So, to our results. We had a fairly quiet start to the morning, but all of our 'first timers' did a great job with very few slip-ups. Jasmin did brilliantly to come in 6th out of 25 and Victoria wasn't far behind in 11th. Hannah didn't quite get her hands on a trophy in 4th place by a mere 0.2, while Anabel safely finished both her routines, having only just moved up to grade 5. Becky and Bronwyn were next up in a group of 11, winning our first trophy of the day (Bronwyn - 2nd - and qualified) with Becky only just missing out by 0.2 in 4th. Anna did herself credit with a couple of tidy routines in her first competition, followed by India and Ellie in the U11 G6. Ellie grabbed our second placing, coming 3rd, with India not far behind in 6th place (out of 18). The pace picked up a bit now - Charlotte & Scarlett finished 1st & 2nd in the U13 G4 and both achieved qualifying scores - well done! Then a few of our more seasoned campaigners joined in the fun on panel number 1. Niki and Abi came in 2nd and 3rd in the over 19s, and Hannah got a well deserved reward for all her hard work with a 3rd place in the under 19s. To round off the morning, our under 17 grade 4 girls put on a great show to finish 2nd, 3rd and 4th, with Marie, Rachel and Sarah winning our first set of nice spinny medals for the team. | |
| On to the afternoon. Adam started things going with a solid 2nd place in his first outing at grade 4 - well done! Lucy followed up with an excellent 2nd place and a qualifying score in the under 13 grade 5s and then our grade 6 boys followed up on panel 3. Three of these had never competed before, but still managed to (mostly!) complete their routines. Lyndon turned it on for the day and came in 2nd, while Josh delivered a couple of nice routines and was unfortunate not to finish higher. Chris and Jamil both had a couple of wobbles on their sets, but both completed their 2nd routines safely. Then came the finale - panel four was somewhat inundated with Nightflyers, as both the under 13 and under 15 grade 6 groups ran concurrently. With two teams in the under 13 and one in the under 15, we were always in with a good chance of medals, but both groups excelled themselves. In the under 13s, Rachel came first with Evie managing a tremendous 3rd place. The rest of the teams came in 4th (Bethan), 5th (Louise), 7th (Jessica) and 8th (Bethany)! It was a very close call between the Nightflyers A and B teams though, with only 0.2 points separating the two. Lastly, the under 15s polished off the afternoon with a totally convincing 1-2-3 and of course the team medal for Jessica, Georgia and Jade. It just remains to say a massive THANKYOU to everyone who made the event possible - all of you who helped set up and pack away, run the cake & tombola stalls, man the reception, record, marshal and judge.
