Feira Cup 2008

We saw a total of 6 podium places (3 Trampoline and 3 DMT) from the East Midland Team that consisted of 25 competitors who attended the FIG sanctioned "IV International Tournament of Trampoline and DMT" held in Santa Maria Da Feira on 25th and 26th July 2008. The total party size was 45 including competitors, officials, coaches and supporting parents. This was another remarkable experience for everyone.  At this event the trampoline judges were Kevin Redgrift and Sarah Correll and the DMT judges were Ray Bevan and Helen Hughes.

Team East Midlands are in their 3rd year of a 5 year development program where the experience gained is not the only benefit.  As a team, we have found that the internationals have given our members a valid purpose to train, exciting new goals, new overseas friendships and contacts.  Some members of the team have attended six internationals and are becoming increasingly more comfortable with the pressures of such competitions.

Our best result in Portugal was in the zero finals, Ladies and Mens.  In the Senior Ladies Open competition Rachel Rodgers (Lincoln) finished in a well deserved 2nd place. Rachel was calm throughout and under the guidance of her coach Rose Townsend, produced some outstanding routines.  Lucy Hatton (A-Stars Trampoline Club), must also be congratulated for her 6th place in the Ladies finals.

In the Mens' Open competition, Dale Bevan (Bassetlaw TC) qualified from the preliminary round in 3rd place and finished the zero final 3rd place overall.  Also, in the Senior Mens event was Peter Hedge, representing Wales, who finished in 4th Place overall.  Peter Hedge became the star of the show when the spectators realised his age (a young 48)  Indeed, Peter had the longest and loudest standing ovation of the finals!
The winner of the Mens competition was Bruno Nobre, Portugal.

Another podium finish, in 3rd place in the Junior group was Mathew Gladders (Aero Kinetics, Peterborough). Mathews relaxed manner helped him through three top-class routines. In the same group, Ben Hughes (Bassetlaw) finished in 12th place. In the junior female section Charlotte Hughes (Bassetlaw) finished in a commendable 6th place where she competed her half-out for the first time. Harriet Guarles-Edge finished in 10th place, Amber Berry 14th, Alice Marshall 15th, Jessica Draycott 22nd, Holly Marshall 29th, Charlotte Summerley 30th and Paige Shaw 32nd. All the coaches were please with the effort of our young performers and are looking forward to seeing them improve in years to come.In the Youth Competition Sarah Bartlett (A-Stars) finished her final in 4th place with Laura Ashley (Phoenix) 7th and Kathryn Mylett (Lincoln) 8th.  Stacey Reed (Bassetlaw) finished 19th place - great to see 3 finalists in the same event, well done to all of you.

The youth male group produced no fewer than 3 finalists, with the top performer, Ryan Rodgers (Lincoln), finishing in 4th place, 6th Richard Morton (Lincoln), 7th Guy Embrey (Lincoln), 11th Luke Callachan (Bassetlaw), 15th Callum Conway (Charnwood) and 22nd Gavin Burton (Lincoln).
The group was won by Ricardo Santos Portugal with a difficulty score of 13.80 and form scores of 8s.
