This year ADAS attended the Gatley Country Fair on Sunday 7th July and it was a wonderful day. The sun shone for most of it and we had a wonderful time.
As in previous years we had our reliable tombola stall, manned chiefly by Ged, and Don's Lunar Luck Dip which has also become an established success. In addition to this we had a new game on the stall called Lucky6 which was run mainly by our chairman, Chris. The astronomical connection for this game is the odds of winning! The new game has shown to be a success and it raised over £50 for the society's funds. The whole event, which was only an afternoon fare, raised a total of £157 for the society. This will go some way towards paying for the increased ground rent for the observatory.
I, for one, am looking forward to the next event, especially if the weather is as kind to us as this one, where we can raise more money for the society.
The photo on the right (click it for a larger view) shows the ADAS
stall with Don, Geoff and Ged ready to grab the unsuspecting
passers by. Paul Molnar turned up later to help out but, unfortunately,
missed the photo call. Sorry paul. You can also see Colin Henshaw's
telescope on the right which he had set up, complete with solar
filter, to show sunspots to interested visitors which proved very
popular.
