December 2003 My dear Friends, 'Be still and know that I am God.' Last Sunday was the last in the church's year 'Christ the King' reminding us who is Lord of all. We tend to think that there isn't the peace and quiet there used to be and life is ever so hectic. Yes, I am sure that is true to a point, but how often do we really make an effort to opt out for a little while to collect our thoughts and then give some time to our relationship with this King of ours. This means prayer and meditation on the Word, not too much, just enough to get away and be with him. Many people find the little 'Celebrating Common Prayer' hugely helpful in shaping this time. But there are as many ways to pray as there are people. This Advent let us look forward to Christmas and His coming as a little baby, truly human, just like us. Let us also meditate on the promise that he will come again as God Almighty, our judge. Let us bring before him in prayer all the rushing around and all the need and pain of the world, again just little at a time. This brief withdrawal from business will strengthen us - you will see. May we learn more about the real meaning of Christmas; and may God bless us, our families and friends with peace and love. Best wishes and prayers. Juergen Bridstrup Father.Juergen@stjamesgo.org.uk |
