...because I needed a domain name...
displaced.co.uk
WHAT?

After not having a site to speak of for far too long, I'm gradually putting this together. Be patient - last time I made a web page, the <BLINK> tag argument was just getting started.

I hope to get a whole bunch of stuff available from here. I've got hooked on Mac OS X, so soon I should have photo albums, web calendars, movie clips, contacts and all sorts served up for your viewing pleasure and my convenience.

WHO?

My name's Chris Platts, and I live in Kent, UK. I'm a recent Computing and Politics graduate who's in search of a job. Feel free to take a look at my CV - the link's over on the right. Read more about me on my LiveJournal.

WHY?

I grabbed the domain name purely because having that redirection allows me to move between mail and web providers with no impact on the addresses themselves. Neat. Why displaced.co.uk? Well, any fan of good sci-fi should've read at least one of Iain M. Banks's novels set in The Culture. In these, there's a method of instantaneous transport called displacement. So it's a reference to that. Plus, it looks quite cool when written down :-)

LINKS

Photo Albums

Obligatory dog photos at present. More soon.

MacMentor.org

A great community where long-time Mac users and those of us who jumped ship thanks to OS X help out "switchers" as they settle in.

Personal Journal / Tech Journal

I keep a personal demi-semi-hemi-daily weblog (okay, so I just update when I feel like it!). Occasionally, flashes of inspiration make it fun to read. NEW - Started a journal for tech-related stuff. Features commentary, experiences and tips about all things geek.

My CV - in HTML, Adobe PDF and Microsoft DOC.

The Culture Mailing List

A great community who sometimes manage to stay on the topic of Iain Banks's books.

Stuff on the Mac

A brave iMac serves as a development webserver for me to mess about on, as well as being the firewall and gateway for my home LAN. Mac OS X is the Unix I always wanted. I hope to eventually have it serving up my iCal calendars and whatnot. This link will connect to the Mac if it's alive and listening.
